SURVEY DETAILS
TARGET POPULATION

For this Network Survey, GLG surveyed 60 senior executives working within the semiconductor space (suppliers/ distributors, manufacturers) in the US, Europe (UK, Germany, France), South Korea and Taiwan. This is the seventh iteration in this tracker series.

What will you learn from this survey?

  • Respondents commented on the latest market dynamics and shortages in the industry.
  • The survey also gathered insights into sales volume in demand vs actual shipment due to the current chip shortages.
  • Lastly, experts commented on the importance of the overall geopolitical situation and concrete geographical location of the foundry wafer fab when thinking of future service and manufacturing contracts.

Examples of findings:

  • Over one-in-two experts (53%) anticipate a growth increase of 5%-7% in sustainable long-term CAGR for the industry.
  • Over four-in-ten respondents (43%) have perceived a 1%-10% decrease in current chip demand vs actual shipments.
  • On average, 62% of the chip demand is in favour of sell-through, meanwhile, the remaining 38% goes to inventory.

Deliverables

The GLG Surveys team drafted the questionnaire with the support of GLG Network Member, Hans Rijns, former Senior Vice President, Chief Technology Officer and Head of Research at NXP Semiconductors.

  • 1 x Individual responses (“raw data”) in Excel.
  • 1 x PPT report with aggregated data.
  • Executive summary with key takeaways and highlights from the raw data.

Sample Questions

  • In your view, how is the supply of the following technology nodes?
  • China has announced major foundry capacity expansion plans. How competitive are these Chinese suppliers versus their established global peers in terms of performance, cost and quality?
  • How are you seeing ASP rising/falling quarter-by-quarter for semiconductors?
  • How likely are you to increase inventory levels for products that are not, or not foreseen to be affected by supply constraints?
  • In the past few years, Major Foundries have announced global capacity extension plans (supported by global Chip ACTs) with a clear shift from Asia to EU and USA. How do you anticipate these moves will lead to a change in wafer costs or wafer processing costs?
  • Have Foundries extended capacity and offered increased manufacturing volume to you for next periods?
  • How would you estimate sustainable longer term CAGR for the overall semiconductor industry?
