SURVEY DETAILS
TARGET POPULATION

For this Network Survey, GLG surveyed 90 senior executives working in the energy and infrastructure industry in the US, Europe (UK, France, Germany, Spain, and Italy), Australia, and New Zealand.

What will you learn from this survey?

  • Respondents commented on how demand for utility-scale battery storage systems has changed across different capacity ranges and shared the main reasons for their deployment and how long their organizations have been using BESS.
  • The survey provides a competitive view of different battery chemistries in use today, expectations for future dominance, and current and future challenges in manufacturing, integration, and regulation.
  • Lastly, the research looked at key trends likely to impact BESS deployment, the most important primary applications of BESS, and the storage sizes expected to be most common by 2030.

Examples of findings:

  • Over seven-in-ten (71%) of respondents agree that a reduction in battery storage costs will be the main macro trend influencing deployment of BESS over the next 5 years.
  • 60% of experts declared that their organization’s approximate budget for BESS deployment is greater than $1M.
  • 91% of experts declared that their organization’s approximate budget for BESS deployment is more than $1M, and 87% stated that it will continue to dominate in the next 3 years.

Deliverables

The GLG Surveys team drafted the questionnaire with the support of GLG Network Member, Guy Wilson, former Director at GP Joule.

  • 1 x Individual responses (“raw data”) in Excel.
  • 1 x PPT report with aggregated data.
  • Executive summary with key takeaways and highlights from the raw data.

Sample Questions

  • What capacity of battery storage installations do you expect to be most widely deployed by 2030?
  • Which of the following macro trends do you think will most influence the development of battery storage over the next 5 years?
  • Do you expect new or additional cybersecurity standards to be introduced for energy storage systems in the next 3 years?
  • Approximately, what is your organization’s budget allocated for battery energy storage system (BESS) deployment?
  • How difficult is it in your region to obtain a suitable grid connection for battery storage projects?
  • Which of the following battery chemistries are currently the most widely used in utility-scale projects in your country?
  • How has the utility-scale battery storage system demand changed for the following scale in your country in the last 2 years?
